2 more days until we enter the wardrobe

It's only two more days until launch ... until our entire family packs up and leaves on a jet plane for three months in South Africa. This adventure has been coming upon us for some time now. For us this year has been a year of seeking answers to questions. In this pursuit, we’ve had an opportunity come our way that we believe has come from God. Church Resource Ministries (CRM) has a ministry in Pretoria, South Africa called NieuCommunities. NieuCommunities takes young, emerging leaders and trains them for one year getting them ready for missional ministry. This year is a “reload” year for them. This means that instead of training young leaders for a year, they are re-connecting with local churches/ministries, re-evaluating their curriculum, and refocusing for the next year. They will also be hosting several two-week “Road Trips” where people can come and have a mini-NieuCommunities experience.

We’ve been invited to join the staff at NieuCommunities for three months starting in March. (Or maybe we invited ourselves … not sure which!) As we have prayed about this and looked into it, it just seems right. Mike has rather easily obtained a 3 month Leave of Absence from work. (His boss even said, “This is great timing.”) Lorie has been able to give her students to other facilitators during this time without any trouble.

While we are there we will be doing a number of things:
Participate in and assist the staff with Road Trips and other needs.
Serve in ministries such as working with low income housing projects, homeless outreaches, outreaches to prostitutes, places of safety for women and girls, job placement and skill training, building homes for the homeless, AIDs hospices, after school ministries for inner city kids, nurturing and teaching abandoned and orphaned kids, etc.
Help with repair/upgrades needed at the facility.
Invite God to change us through the experience.

In case you are wondering, yes our kids are coming too. We will still be home-schooling them, and they will be participating in every way that we can involve them. This will be a family ministry.

We have peered into the wardrobe, seen the story that is unfolding, and found that we play an important role in the story … as do all of us!

Well all Jackie had to hear was the 7 story mall and she's ready to go. Your smiles speak a thousand words, I can't imagine how fulfilling all this is for you. I'm sure you want to explode every minute and make it as full as possible. I carry you guys with me always, especially in these past very trying weeks. We are off to our own 'road trip' to Mexico with the great team of Kevin Kilburg and Tom Sujishi to build some homes. I am very excited to be able to finally do this and to take my oldest three, Jess, Julia and Jackie, along to share in this awesome experience. I love you all, please give my love to everyone there till very soon when your all back home with wonderful experiences to share, Lori, I get the first girls sleepover!!!
